Yoga Teacher Training

A private 1 year course to deepen your practice and understanding of Yoga.

40 weeks of yoga practice and study spread out over 1 year.

Become a qualified Yoga teacher or simply choose to do the course for your own personal wellbeing and development.

PART 1 - This first part of the course will teach you how to confidently practise yoga.

Yoga practice includes asanas (postures), movement, specific breathing techniques and mental focus techniques (concentration and meditation). Through these techniques we are able to become stronger, more flexible and improve our health. Mentally, we can become more resilient, balanced, clear-minded and content.

The Part 1 course content is taught through 30 one hour private sessions (in person) with Jean scheduled at a regular time each week (spread out over 9 or 10 months), attending classes, home practice and a small amount of online self-paced learning.

The aim of these sessions is to give you a deeper understanding of yoga so you can get the most out of your practice and find out what yoga really is about. We will cover how to use asanas to create a strong and healthy body, how to prevent injury, Yoga philosophy, breathing techniques, Ayurvedic principles and practical anatomy – everything you need to feel confident about how to practice.

To join the course, you need to be comfortable with practicing at home and be committed to practicing at least 3 times a week (including once in class with Jean). The amount of time you practice at home is up to you. A practice could be as short as 30 minutes. Jean will design your practice to be as effective as possible based on your time constraints.

At the end of the 30 weeks, you will have a much deeper understanding of what your body needs to be at its best and will feel confident practising yoga at home as well as have the skills to know what you should and shouldn’t do in a yoga class.

Time commitment for Part 1:
Private sessions (in person in Kogarah, Sydney) with Jean Campbell (30 in total)
Yoga Anatomy Online Course (in your own time at home)
Home practice: 2 or more times a week
Attending group Yoga classes with Jean (30 in total): either in person or online

PART 2 - The second part of the course focuses specifically on teaching skills.

If you want to become a professional yoga teacher, this second part of the course will teach you the necessary skills. During these 10 sessions (spread out over 3 - 4 months) you will learn, practice and implement various teaching techniques for group classes and individuals. Passing your final assessments and the assignments will make you a qualified yoga teacher. After passing, you will receive a certificate that allows you to register as a Registered Yoga Teacher (200 hours) with Yoga Alliance.

Time commitment for Part 2:
Private sessions (in person in Kogarah, Sydney) with Jean Campbell (10 in total)

Frequently asked questions

What if I don’t want to be a teacher?

Part 1 would be perfect for you. All of the content is based around building a personal practice. At the end of the course, you will have a solid understanding of the techniques of yoga and the approaches and intentions behind them. This is knowledge you would never get from just attending regular yoga classes at a studio or gym.

Why is this course longer than other courses?

In the last 20 years, yoga teacher trainings have become much shorter and more condensed. Prior to this, to become a yoga teacher would take many years. First you would have been practicing for a few years before you would consider becoming a teacher, and then, you would undertake a long training 2, 3 or even more years of training. The majority of your time was spent on practice, with the theory spread out over the duration of a long course. Modern yoga trainings reverse this, more time is spent on theory and less on practice. If a person has done many years of practice prior to undertaking a one month training, this could work well – but if someone has not done much practice then their ability to understand and integrate the theory will be limited.

Further to this, it’s important to really understand yoga and personally experience it’s benefits, as well as the pitfalls to avoid, for an extended period of time before considering teaching others. It’s like trying to teach a language to someone else before you are fluent in the language yourself – you may get some of the basics across, but you will make a lot of mistakes and their understanding will be even more limited than yours.

So, this course is structured by making your personal yoga practice the foundation. In Part 1, the complete focus is on building a regular practice that addresses your individual physical capabilities and gradually addresses any imbalances you may have. You will be creating strength where you need it and releasing tension from areas of restriction. You will learn about the specific breathing practices and mental techniques of yoga that will allow you to improve your mental clarity and help you manage stressful or challenging situations better.

After 9-10 months of this focussed personal practice you will notice significant changes in your body and mind. If you choose to do Part 2 you will have another 3 months of this internal focus, as well as learning how to apply what you have learned for other people. You will have time to integrate the theory. By the end of the course you will have been practicing in this manner for 1 year and gradually absorbing and integrating the theory. When you start teaching you will be much more confident in your knowledge and experience than if you did a 1 month training.

I have already completed a Yoga Teacher Training, would this course be good for me?

Yes, this course will give you the opportunity to bring your focus back to yourself and your own practice.

Most yoga courses teach you how to teach yoga, but they may not teach you how to individualise your own practice so you can develop and progress over time. Even if your course did, you may have now come to a point where you need more input and knowledge to understand your body and really progress your practice. You may have become really busy and your personal practice is no longer your main focus. If any of these apply to you then doing the first part (30 weeks) will allow you to focus on yourself and your own practice. Giving yourself this time will inevitably re-invigorate your teaching as a flow on effect.
